"Everyone must cast their vote": Savitri Jindal urges the people of Haryana.
Hisar (Haryana) [India] October 5: Savitri Jindal, an independent candidate from the Hisar constituency, called on everyone to vote on Saturday.
"I have cast my vote. This election is for the people of Hisar, and everyone should participate. I will strive to make Hisar beautiful and developed," she stated.
Seema Jindal, Savitri Jindal's daughter, also voted at a polling booth in Hisar. While addressing the media, she encouraged everyone to exercise their right to vote.
"...'Pehle matdan phir jalpan'. This is a 'yagna' for our country, city, and state. Therefore, everyone should cast their vote," Seema remarked.
Savitri Jindal is the mother of BJP's Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal and the widow of the late industrialist OP Jindal. She is running against Haryana Minister and current MLA from Hisar, Kamal Gupta, after being denied a ticket by the BJP.
More than two crore people are eligible to vote in the Haryana Assembly elections today, which will determine if the BJP maintains power for a third consecutive term or if the Congress regains control after a decade.
Voting in Haryana will take place from 7 am to 6 pm, with 1,031 candidates competing across all 90 assembly constituencies. A total of 20,632 polling booths have been established for the election, and the results will be announced on October 8, alongside those of Jammu and Kashmir.
This election is critical as the BJP aims for a third consecutive term, the Congress seeks to regain power on the back of anti-incumbency sentiment, and issues surrounding farmer and wrestler protests loom large.
The primary parties contesting in Haryana include the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with the pre-poll alliance of the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP)-Azad Samaj Party (ASP).
In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP secured 40 of the 90 seats, forming a coalition government with the JJP, which won 10 seats. The Congress claimed 31 seats, but the JJP later exited the coalition.
