The Indian Embassy in Cambodia assists in repatriating Indians who fell victim to fraudulent job scams in the country.
The Indian Embassy in Cambodia announced that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, they successfully rescued and repatriated Indian citizens caught in fraudulent job schemes. The embassy warned job seekers to be cautious of deceitful agents. In a post on X, the embassy stated, "The Indian Embassy in Cambodia, along with Cambodia's Ministry of Interior, has successfully rescued and repatriated Indian nationals entangled in fraudulent job scams! The embassy emphasized its ongoing efforts to assist Indian nationals affected by fake job offers that often lead to cybercrime in scam compounds. Following specific leads from the embassy, Cambodian police rescued 67 Indian nationals from Poipet on September 22. The embassy is now facilitating the repatriation of these individuals in batches, with embassy officials present at the airport to assist them. Fifteen citizens returned to India on September 30, and 24 more followed on October 1, while the remaining 28 are expected to return in the coming days.
The Indian Embassy continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to helping nationals involved in cyber crimes. Indian citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution when pursuing job opportunities in Cambodia and other Southeast Asian nations through dubious agents and social media ads. Since January 2022, the Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh has helped repatriate over 1,000 Indian citizens, with nearly 770 of those in the first nine months of 2024, thanks to the cooperation of Cambodian authorities.
