Rohit Sharma reflects on T20 World Cup victory ahead of ODI series against Sri Lanka

Colombo [Sri Lanka], August 2 Before the upcoming ODI series, Indian captain Rohit Sharma reminisced about India's ICC T20 World Cup 2024 victory, where they triumphed over South Africa in the final.

Following a clean sweep of Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, India will now face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The ODIs are scheduled for August 2, August 4, and August 7.

For the 50-over format, senior players including Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer have been selected alongside Rohit Sharma.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Rohit reflected, "What an incredible month it was. It was a joy, filled with memories that will stay with us for a lifetime. It even feels like I could still step onto the field for the shortest format, but it's time to move on."

He continued, "Now it's time for us to return to the field, embarking on a new phase with a new coach. This partnership will be crucial for Indian cricket. We’re hitting the reset button, bringing the same energy and passion, with both familiar and new faces. This is Team India and this is your captain Rohit Sharma speaking. Let's go!"

In the forthcoming ODI series, Rohit and Kohli return to action after leading India to a memorable seven-run victory against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup final in Barbados on June 29.

Rohit Sharma ended the T20 World Cup with his best-ever performance, amassing 257 runs in eight matches at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate exceeding 156. His highest score was 92, with three half-centuries, making him the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Rohit's last ODI was a disappointing defeat to Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad last November. He is 291 runs away from becoming the fourth Indian to reach 11,000 ODI runs and just 60 runs short of surpassing Rahul Dravid to become the fourth-highest run-getter for India in ODIs. Rohit has accumulated 10,709 runs in 262 matches at an average of 49.12, including 31 centuries and 55 fifties, with a top score of 264.

Virat Kohli leads with 14,797 runs in 292 ODIs at an average of 58.7 and holds the record for the most centuries in ODIs, with 50.
