Haryana: The contest in Tosham revolves around Bansi Lal's legacy, with BJP's Shruti Choudhry stating, "The voters will make the decision."
Bhiwani (Haryana) [India], October 5: The battle for Haryana's Tosham assembly seat has become a direct contest over the legacy of former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal. BJP candidate Shruti Choudhry, his granddaughter, is facing her cousin Anirudh Chaudhary, who is representing the Congress.
Shruti Choudhry, the daughter of BJP RS MP Kiran Choudhry, expressed confidence in her ability to defeat the Congress.
In an interview, she stated, "Today is a very significant day. The voters will determine the future with their votes. The people here are very intelligent; they understand which party has worked for every section. There has been significant development in villages in various aspects. A lot of work has been accomplished, and I intend to continue that. The Congress is irrelevant today; they have no organization."
BJP MP Kiran Choudhry expressed confidence in the party's success in the Haryana assembly elections, asserting that the BJP will win and form the government for a third consecutive time by prioritizing the needs of common people.
Kiran Choudhry remarked, "This is the biggest festival of democracy, and everyone should participate because your vote will shape the government. I believe you should vote for those who have worked for you, who are honest and loyal."
She criticized other candidates, saying, "Many candidates make numerous promises during elections but fail to deliver. Today, the people of Haryana must decide: on one side is a BJP government that has achieved historic milestones for farmers, empowered women, and provided jobs to the youth; on the other side are those engaged in corruption and adept at lying."
"BJP listens to the voices of the common people and prioritizes their interests. The BJP government will certainly be formed," Kiran Choudhry added.
Anirudh Choudhary also cast his vote on Friday and expressed confidence in winning the seat, stating, "The atmosphere is very positive, and people have decided to bring the Congress party back to power. The Congress will win in the Tosham seat as well."
The constituency has been a family stronghold, with four-time CM Bansi Lal elected from Tosham on six occasions, his younger son, Surender Singh, elected twice, and Surender's wife, Kiran Choudhry, elected four times.
Over two crore people are eligible to vote in the Haryana Assembly elections today, determining whether the BJP will maintain power for a third time or if the Congress will return after a decade.
This election is a crucial contest, with the BJP seeking a third consecutive term while the Congress aims to regain power by capitalizing on anti-incumbency sentiments and issues related to farmer and wrestler protests.
The main parties contesting in Haryana include the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with a pre-poll alliance of the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP)-Azad Samaj Party (ASP).
Voting in Haryana will take place from 7 am to 6 pm, with a total of 1,031 candidates contesting across all 90 assembly constituencies and 20,632 polling booths set up for the election.
The results of the Haryana Assembly elections will be announced alongside those of Jammu and Kashmir on October 8. In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 out of 90 seats, forming a coalition government with the JJP, which secured 10 seats, while the Congress obtained 31 seats. However, the JJP later withdrew from the coalition.
